Barcode Change FAQs
GS1 Certified UPC Barcodes
Typically, the process takes about 3 to 4 weeks, though it may vary depending on several factors. It often involves submitting multiple tickets to ensure a smooth update.
No, the ASIN change will not impact your inventory.
With a proven track record since 10/13/22, we’ve successfully assisted clients in updating their UPCs. We are confident in our ability to achieve outstanding results for you.
Impact: Minimal. There will be no effect on Reviews or BSR.
Labels: We recommend updating the UPC barcodes on your boxes. However, you can continue using Amazon barcode labels (FNSKU) as an alternative. From our experience, old UPCs still associate with ASINs and are scannable in FBA. As a precautionary measure, we suggest updating your labels to avoid future issues.
Inventory: Existing inventory at FBA will remain unaffected.
This service only includes updating the UPC field. If you encounter issues like a removed or suspended ASIN that requires reinstatement, an additional purchase will be needed through our website.
We don't need to take down an ASIN to update the UPC. However, Amazon may sometimes create a new ASIN to remove the incorrect UPC from the original listing. This rarely happens, but if it does, we will re-list your ASIN with everything intact, and there’s only a minimal chance of up to 24 hours of downtime.
Yes, we recommend updating the labels to the new GS1 barcodes during your next manufacturing run.
No, both the old UPC and new GS1 can coexist on the same ASIN and are fully usable. They can be scanned without causing any inventory or stock issues. Just ensure to use the new GS1 barcodes in future manufacturing runs.
Yes, UPC is universal. Updating it in the US market will trigger updates in other markets as well, though it may take some time for the changes to take effect globally.
Since the UPC change is done through merging into another ASIN, it doesn’t disrupt the listing. All inventory at FBA and product data will transfer to the new ASIN, and the Product Detail Page will remain active throughout the process.
You can continue using the old barcode, but we recommend replacing it with the new GS1 barcode during your next manufacturing run. FNSKU is also acceptable, but using the new GS1 is preferable. Most importantly, ensure only one barcode is scannable at a time—do not use both the printed GS1 barcode and the E-Commerce barcode.
If e-commerce has not yet accepted your GS1 barcode, you will need to cover it with the e-commerce barcode. E-commerce requires only one scannable barcode on incoming units.
